In January, I hiked up Carrizo Mountain with friends from the San Diego Hiking Club. The peak is located 70 miles east of San Diego, and 14 miles north of the Mexican border. It's basically a large pile of sand in the middle of nowhere, but the views from the top over the Carrizo Badlands are quite spectacular.
